ReLeafing Day 2023
Nashville Tree Foundation’s Annual City-wide Tree Planting Day
Thanks to over 100 volunteers and our wonderful community partners, the 21st Annual ReLeafing Day was a big, green success. With support from Arbor Day Foundation, Truist, Metro Water Services, and Metro Tree Bank, Nashville Tree Foundation made steps to reforest two school campuses and one neighborhood, and began clearing invasive species in Edgehill Park.
ReLeafing Day has a rich history, stemming from the remarkable success of the Nashville Tree Foundation's acclaimed ReLeaf Nashville project. This initiative, running from 1998 to 2001, saw the planting of 6,757 shade trees, a vital effort to replenish the 20,000 trees lost to devastating tornadoes on April 16, 1998. The project then transitioned into an annual planting day, with which we hope to increase our impact on Nashville’s green spaces and community every year.
Since its inception in 2002, ReLeafing Day has become an annual celebration of tree planting. Every year, ReLeafing Day expands its reach and continues to grow, thanks to volunteers, our community partners, and supporters just like you. Together, we've planted hundreds of trees strategically positioned to coexist harmoniously with power lines, enhancing the overall well-being of our city.
This year, we focused on making a big impact with a specific community focus. ReLeafing Day featured three project sites in the vibrant Edgehill and Wedgewood Houston neighborhoods. Plantings at Fall Hamilton Elementary School and Johnson Alternative Learning Center, and invasive species clearing at Edgehill Memorial Community Park were orchestrated by three wonderful teams of volunteers, community partners, and school staff who planted 22 different species!
None of this is possible without YOUR SUPPORT. Join us next year and volunteer. Come, let’s plant trees together. It’s an amazing way to spend a Saturday morning celebrating Nashville’s Tree Canopy!
